Podcasting Trends & Predictions for 2026

Aloha, Flow Riders!

New year, new season of The Flow. We're starting with our annual predictions episode.

After analyzing what's coming for podcasters in 2026, one message stands clear...

After years of momentum, 2026 marks when video becomes standard for podcasting. Video isn't optional anymore.

The surprising part? The most successful shows use remarkably simple setups.

The Evidence:

  • Top three podcasts—Joe Rogan, Diary of a CEO, and Mel Robbins—all prioritize video
  • Netflix has entered the podcasting market, actively recruiting video talent
  • Late-night hosts with massive production budgets still choose minimal setups

What Works:

  • A basic table and quality microphones (Conan O'Brien's approach)
  • Simple three-camera setup: host shot, guest shot, wide shot
  • Clean visuals without complex graphics or scene switching

As Doc put it: "If you look at the number one podcast, number two podcast, number three podcast, it is really two people sitting at a table and a shot of each of them, and then the table. That's it. And if the show that gives 35 million downloads a week uses that approach, why do you need to twirl anything?"

Getting comfortable on camera takes practice. You have to start somewhere, and your first attempts won't be perfect. Katie suggests creating accountability by setting public deadlines. When you tell your audience when you'll start, you create the pressure needed to follow through.

Remember: Audiences want authentic humans and real connections. Your genuine presence, even with imperfections, resonates more than overproduced content.

How To Take Action This Week:

  1. If you are just getting started, start with what you have. Two cameras, decent audio, and a table cover your basic needs.
  2. Focus on conversation quality rather than production complexity. (This is what all levels of podcasters need to focus on this week)
  3. Show up consistently for your audience.
  4. Use Ecamm to simplify the technical aspects of production.

As Doc said, "Ma's Spaghetti doesn't look like a five-star restaurant meal, but it's delicious and made with heart." That's your podcast strategy for 2026.
